Switzerland for the Oceans is an Association ("Verein") under the Swiss Civil Code with its registered office in Zürich, Switzerland. Its mission is to support the vitality of the oceans through thoughtful, collaborative and multi-stakeholder activities in favour of marine conservation.

Our Association is guided by our Blueprint.
​
Switzerland for the Oceans was conceived jointly by Claudia Heck and Charles Barber in the autumn of 2016. Over months, the pair developed the focus, strategy, and branding of their fledgling organisation, subsequently recruiting several volunteers to join their 'movement' especially from PartnerRe, Deloitte Consulting, British Swiss Chamber of Commerce, and Charles Barber's business network.
By the summer of 2017, Claudia and Charles led the establishment of the Switzerland for the Oceans Verein with the assistance of three co-opted colleagues namely, Timothy Mueller, Abina Kealy, and Carolin Jauss.

In November 2021, we are operating the Management Board with the original Founders as Members and are looking forward to a future organisation with new Members and potentially an Expert Advisory Board to help us steer our way through new developments for the Verein and our operation.

Today, Switzerland for the Oceans is an Association (“Verein”) in accordance with the Swiss Civil Code ("Schweizerisches Zivilgesetzbuch"), part II, chapter II (link to the official legal text in German language and the unofficial English translation).
